Company Magazine Scans : She’s Pop But She’s No Pushover - 02/08/2011

marina

This Thursday the new issue of Company magazine hits the stores and looking beautiful on the cover is noone other than Marina herself. There is a great interview inside and some new gorgeous pictures shot by Rony Shram. Be sure to grab yourself a copy as soon as you can as it is only £2. If you can’t wait then you can view the pictures and scans in our gallery.

Outspoken? Yes. Strong ideas about her look? Yep. But with a successful first album under her belt, a campaign with Max Factor about to start and a tour with Katy Perry in the US – 25-year-old Marina Diamandis has a right to speak her mind. And she does so politely, as Companyeditor Victoria White found out…

Reveal Magazine Scans : Marina’s Beauty Obsessions - 02/03/2011

reveal magazine scans marina and the diamonds max factor beauty obsessions

We’re loving her work… but love her look even more, so we grabbed a chat with the gorgeous Marina and the Diamonds singer to get her beauty secrets.

Congrats, Marina Diamandis, on becoming the new face of Max Factor Max Colour Effects. What first drew you to the range?
I love that I’m working with Max Factor to inspire girls to have fun with make-up. I absolutely love the Dip-In Eyeshadow in Vibrant Turquoise – I find applying eye shadow a bit daunting, but this built-in sponge applicator makes it east to get a vibrant look in seconds, a necessity when I’m on stage! My other top picks are these cute Mini Nail Polishes. I like to wear four nails in one colour, then the ring finger in a contrasting shade for a cheeky but cute twist.

What’s your can’t live without’ product?
It has to be Crème de la Mer lip balm. By applying balm regularly, I know my lips will stay soft, meaning I can have fun with different lippies.

And your favourite beauty bargain?
Vaseline. I use it to condition my lips, shape my eyebrows and take off my make-up, plus it lasts forever.

What are the three golden beauty rules you always live by?
The classics. I make sure I remove all traces of make-up before bed, try to get lots of sleep and drink at least two pints of water a day.

Biggest beauty no-no?
I hate it when people wear foundation that doesn’t match their skin colour! It makes their whole make-up look wrong.

To read more of this interview and find out where to buy products Marina talks about just view the scans in our gallery. If you are a collector, this issue of Reveal is in stores now for only 99p (Issue 05).

Look Magazine Scans : Marina Reveals Her Beauty Secrets - 02/03/2011

look magazine scans marina and the diamonds reveals her max factor beauty secrets

Our current beauty crush Marina Diamandis – the new face of Max Factor Colour Effect make-up lets us into her quirky style secrets.

What’s your beauty philosophy?
Be playful and experiment with make-up. I love to create bold, colourful and fun statements. Make-up is such an easy way to express individuality so I’d encourage everyone to do it!

Is there a particular feature you like to emphasise?
I’ve got really strong eyebrows so I like making a big deal of my eyes, but I think I’ll always be a lips kind of girl. Pale pink lips have become my signature look, finished off with a slick of lipgloss. But it’s always good to keep things fresh and be versatile – that way you’ll never get bored and always have an up-to-date look.

What’s your fail-safe make-up look?
I like chalky-pink lips with strong brows, plus a smokey under-eye with painted-on ’60s Twiggy-style lashes and lots of mascara.

And for a night out?
Big smoky feline eyes, but not necessarily with traditional dark colours . Right now I’m doing a quirky take on it using a bright turquoise, then finishing it off with a hot pink lip & clashing coral nails. I’m definitely more of a clashing than matching person – I love the individuality!

Do you go for many beauty treatments?
Absolutely. Every six weeks I have a facial at the Aqua Spa in the Sanderson Hotel, London. It keeps my skin baby soft and is a great way to relax. I also have a pedicure once a month.

Talking of nails, do you like to bling them up?
Definitely. It’s an easy and cool way to be a bit punky. I love mismatched colours like orange and shocking pinks. I like to use one as the main nail shade with a cheeky flash of the contrasting colour on the tips for a twist on the French manicure.

We’ve seen you with some great coloured streaks in your hair. Are they dyed or clip-in?
Weave in. I’ve found it’s impossible to get any kind of good colour with dye as my hair is so dark. They’re great for a little update of colour.

And what’s your bad-hair day saviour?
My Greek grandmother taught me to put olive oil or coconut oil on my hair. It works a treat at smoothing split ends! A god product for styling is the Frédéric Fekkai spray – my hairdresser always uses it on me and I love it.

Click the thumbnails below to view the interview in our gallery and find out Marina’s make-up must haves & how much it is to get some of the products she uses. This issue of Look (Issue 06) is in stores now for only £1.70 so go get yourself a copy to keep some beautiful pictures.

Heat Magazine Scans : Marina’s Style Confessions - 02/03/2011

heat magazine scans marina and the diamonds max factor style confessions

This week Marina is in a bunch of the weekly magazines talking mostly about the Max Factor range she is now the face of, Max Colour Effect. You can read an extract of the interview from Heat magazine below or read it all from the scans I uploaded in our photo gallery. If you are a collector, the issue is £1.65 to buy and is available now!

McDonald’s Happy Mean boots, eyeshadow for lipstick, cartoon characters as fashion inspiration… Welcome to the quirky world of Marina Diamandis.

What’s your style inspiration?
My style is a mix of pop art and grunge, I’d say. I take inspiration from Jessica Rabbit and cheerleaders gone wrong!

Do you ever slob out in a tracksuit when at home?
Yes, of course I do, absolutely. I often walk out in one too!

Is there anything that you just wouldn’t wear?
Ooh, that’s a hard one. I like so many different things that there isn’t much left that I wouldn’t wear. I guess I don’t think I’ll ever wear red leather trousers.

Which other celeb’s style do you admire?
I love Gwen Stefani. She’s always been true to herself. Her style is old-school Hollywood mixed with quite a boyish look, and I really like it. I’m also a fan of [DJ and model] Leigh Lezark – she’s so cool and looks stunning!

What are your beauty must haves?
My latest must-have is Max Factor’s Dip In Eye Shadow. My favourite shades are Moody Blue and Vibrant Turquoise, which give a really easy flash of loud colour across the lids. I’m also loving the lipglosses, which are colourful and smell delicious.

What’s your ultimate lipstick?
Illamasqua Lipstick in Filth – it’s a chalky pink and I wear it all the time, both on and offstage.

What’s your signature perfume?
Ralph by Ralph Lauren. It’s really sweet and girly and I’ve worn it for about six years. I don’t really like having lots of perfumes. I’ve tried others, but always go back to Ralph.

Quickfire Questions
Heels of flats? Heels
Going out or staying in? Going out
High street or designer? Designer
Shoes or bags? Shoes
Lipstick or lipgloss? Lipstick

Marina’s Plot to Invade ‘The Mess That’s America’ - 01/17/2011

Marina And The Diamonds Plot to Invade The Mess That's America

Despite homegrown accolades from sources as illustrious as the BBC, BRIT Awards and MTV European Music Awards, Marina and the Diamonds still have one big area left to fully conquer: America.

“The thing is, it’s not easy to break in America because it’s so massive,” Maria Diamandis, the UK pop singer-songwriter at the heart of Marina and the Diamonds, tells Spinner. “If it’s too British-specific then the sound doesn’t travel. But I do think if your music is suited [to American tastes] then you will break.”

Putting aside her pronounced British delivery, Marina and the Diamonds’ debut LP, ‘The Family Jewels’ has an infectious, hook-laden pop sound that should resonate across the Atlantic just fine. It just looks like she’ll have to wait a little while longer before she can put that to the test in a live environment. Having cancelled her North American tour — originally scheduled to kick off this month — in order to record new material, Diamandis now has to stick it out in her motherland until she relocates to America in October.

It’s a bold move for a darling of the UK music press, but Diamandis knows that when she finally does hit the US, there will be no shortage of inspiration to fuel her obsession with American celebrity culture, best exemplified by the refrain from her hit single ‘Hollywood’: “I’m obsessed with the mess that’s America.”

“I think what fascinates me is the contradictory element of the culture,” she says. “Things like beauty and success and youth are glamorized and prioritized far more than things that actually matter, things like, ‘Are you a nice person?’ or ‘Do you help out?’” (more…)

InStyle Magazine – 5 Minutes With Marina Diamandis - 01/13/2011

InStyle Magazines 5 Minutes With Marina Diamandis

Welsh singer Marina Diamandis, frontwoman of kooky-cool pop band Marina and the Diamonds and the new face of Max Factor, made her first visit to Australia earlier this month for The Falls music festival. InStyle chatted to the striking 25-year-old about vintage shopping, life mottos and her love of Jessica Rabbit.

Tell us about your style.
“I’m a real chameleon. I love feminine things, but I also quite like brash and bold clothes–things attitude. It changes so much.”

Do you have any style icons?
“I like the way Shirley Manson from Garbage and Gwen Stefani dress. But Jessica Rabbit would be my style icon. She is a fabulous femme fatale. Anybody who doesn’t like Jessica Rabbit is nuts.”

We hear you’re a big fan of vintage clothing…
“I am. I love bargain shopping in vintage stores and I like eccentric things. I went through a stage where I bought lots of vintage cheerleading outfits.”

If you were a piece of clothing, what would you be?
“It would probably be a brightly coloured woollen cardigan with a bunny [ears] hood. There is a label called Fairground that makes them.”

What are your handbag essentials?
“Three pairs of sunglasses, a compact mirror, baby wipes and apples. I know it sounds weird, but it comes in handy when you get peckish throughout the day.”

Favourite pastime?
“Trawling the internet for inspirational images.”

What’s one thing our readers might be surprised to learn about you?
“I don’t like leaving things open–I have to shut everything. I can’t sleep if there are any windows or drawers open in the house.”

Do you have a motto or mantra that you try to live by?
“My mantra is not to have a mantra because you hardly ever live up to them. The only thing that has ever worked for me has been to be completely honest, even if that means exposing yourself to a world or situation that makes you uncomfortable.”
