Last night (the 5th Of May) Marina made an appearance at an Esquire Magazine party to celebrate the launch of their June issue. She wore a gorgeous green dress designed by the very talented Hayley Scanlan, who as we have mentioned before is currently designing some tour pieces for Marina to wear during The California Dreams Tour. Marina recently sat down with Andrew Freund and spoke about everything from her musical influences, style inspiration & touring this year. Watch the interview above or you can read a rough draft of it below.

Andrew : Tell me a little about your fashion sense, you are known for being a great show-man. Where does all this inspiration come from?

Marina : I really don’t know, It’s very instinctive. Sometimes I have a stylist, sometimes I don’t. I haven’t had one for about six months actually. It usually depends on where I am going so at the moment I’m iving on Hollywood. I look like I’ve come out of a fancy dress shop. I really love vintage, at the moment I’m really into very 70′s vintage. I don’t know, I just like this. I like knitwear with plastic.

Andrew : That’s cool. It’s kind of Gagaesque, she likes the vinyl.

Marina : Darling, I think this was out before gaga was born. I think this was made in the 70s.

Andrew : You are a younger artist coming on the scene, who are some of your influences?

Marina : Eminem, Madonna, a writer called Dorothy Parker, a feminist called Simone de Beauvoir, Daniel Johnston a DIY artist, Britney Spears..

Andrew : Now question! Britney Spears.. She always lip syncs her songs, so as an artist, what do you make of other artists that don’t perform live?

Marina : Well, I can’t really relate that to my love for Britney because for her everyone knows that it was the whole package, she was the really sweet person, looks amazing, played with the innocent imagery and people connected with that. I know she can sing, if you look at vintage videos of her when she was younger, she had a massive voice. So it’s slightly disappointing and if you go to see a show and they don’t sing, personally I don’t think I would go to that show. You know, Britney is and was a star and she’s been an incredible performer all her life. My love will never die for Britney.

Andrew : When fans go to see a Marina And The Diamonds show what can they expect to see?

Marina : It’s quite rough around the edges, It’s very theatrical and very in your face. My voice is very good live, it’s actually better than the record. I wasn’t really a trained singer when I recorded my album and now, yeah, I have a much better voice.
It’s kinda like pop art fused with grunge. I love to play with the idea of squeaky clean pop but really I don’t fit into that at all. That’s kind of what The Burger Queen Tour encapsulated.

Andrew : So tell me a little bit about, you’re gonna go on tour with Katy Perry, mega monsterous star, are you excited? nervous?

Marina : Yeah I think I will be nervous, I think because it’s the biggest gigs I’ve done. I’m opening up for someone else which means it’s not necessarily playing to my own fans so you’re worked much harder as an entertainer and that’s why I’m doing it. Obviously because I really like her but the main reason was because I want to elevate myself as a performer before I go on to this next album.

Andrew : Tell me a little about the next album, how are fans going to feel when they hear the next album as opposed to the first one.

Marina : Hopefully they will love me even more. That’s what I want, so that’s what going to happen. I think they are really gonna like it. I’ve changed a lot as a person, my views have changed quite a lot as well and I’m very unapologetic about things now where as for The Family Jewels I was like “Hi I’m Marina And The Diamonds”.

Andrew : Like a young Britney Spears perhaps

Marina : Haha, whatever. Now I’m like… You’ll see.

Yesterday afternoon the paparazzi caught Marina leaving Percy & Reed hairdressers after getting a little trim & colour in her hair. She opted for a lighter colour like she had back in 2008 compared to her well known dark brown/black hair she has had for the last 2 years.

The dress Marina is wearing is also the dress she wore to the Glammy Awards last week, designed by Hayley Scanlan. She posted on her blog about the pictures and also mentioned she has some material left to make some more for anyone interested.

Designer / friend of Marina’s, Hayley Scanlan recently updated her official website with a blog about Marina. She mentions Marina wearing her dress at the Glammy Awards last week and even better she says she is designing outfits for when Marina joins Katy Perry on The California Dreams Tour this summer. Earlier on tonight Marina & Paloma Faith got together and sat front row at the Ashish show in London as part of Fashion Week. Marina was all out in her vintage best and looked gorgeous as did Paloma who was wearing Ashish. The pictures of them together are amazing, they look like great friends just having fun.
Most of you may know Marina is a huge fan of Ashish, so it’s no surprise that she was at his show as a fan & a friend. His outfits were a big part of The Burger Queen Tour and she has also wore his clothes to various events over the last year. Check out the gallery to see if you can find some.

Starting off the week still in the fashion spirit, Marina attended a few fashion shows London had to offer. She first sat front row at the Mark Fast fashion show before showing up at the Julien MacDonald show with her favourite blue sunglasses of the weekend with her.

After the MacDonald show she put on a purple poncho with embroidery flowers on it, still looked great and headed off. She took to her Twitter account later in the night to tweet about her disappointment about rude people saying:

Met a designer today who was the rudest person I have ever met. Will never go to his show again. Sorry. But was left with such a bad feeling, had to say something. I don’t give a shit if you’re massive. Manners cost nothing

Hopefully he didn’t ruin the past few days for her as they look like they have been a lot of fun.

On Sunday Marina for the 3rd day in a row made the most of London fashion week by attending the Mulberry show which attracted other celebs such as Kirsten Dunst, VV Brown & Fearne Cotton. Marina showed up this time without purple highlights, instead going for a natural look. She wore a royal blue leather top with bows on the front and J Brand jeans.

On Saturday Marina was photographed at a whole bunch of fashion shows in London for London’s Fashion Week. She was spotted at the House Of Holland show which attracted quite a few celebrities. Marina wore a bright fuschia pink skirt with a white and red vertically-striped blouse, she covered up outside and was papped with her custom leather jacket and even a green mickey mouse t-shirt at one point.

She didn’t just sit front row at the House Of Holland show though. Along with the bright blue glasses she is often spotted in she watched the Central Saint Martins MA & Jonathan Saunders Shows too.
